Symbiosis Law School (SLS) Pune was established in 1977 under the illustrious banner of Symbiosis Society. Since 2002, it is a constituent of Symbiosis International University which is accredited by NAAC with ‘A’ grade. SLS Pune has been ranked 5th by India Today- Nielsen and ranked 6th by Outlook Survey in 2012 amongst the top ten Best Law Schools in India. This stature is attained through its various programs such as B.A., LL.B, B.B.A., LL.B, Master of Laws (LL.M.) with five specializations, sixteen different Diploma programs and nine certificate programs.
The curriculum and pedagogy are designed around the latest quality initiatives in legal education including recommendations of the Carnegie Report, USA combining skill, knowledge and values which are imparted through multitalented, competent and enthusiastic faculty. Their efforts are reciprocated by the participation of all the stakeholders including the members of the bar and bench, corporate sector and international experts. Impressive international collaborations across UK, US and Europe have brought in the membership of International Association of Law Schools, USA and the Asian Law Institute, Singapore. SLS is the only Indian partner with the Erasmus Mundus global consortium of Law Schools. Since 2008, DAAD, Germany has been preferring SLS for funding the members of faculty and students for research and exchange programs through the ‘New Passage to India’ Program with Leibniz University, Hanover and Brunswick European Law School, Ostfalia University of Applied Sciences, Wolfenbuttel, Germany. Since 2012, SLS Pune has also been a part of Ontario Maharashtra Goa (OMG) Exchange Program.
Students can avail of scholarships such as the SC/ST top class education scholarships from the Government of India, State Merit Scholarships and others. They obtain support, attention and motivation through the mentor system. The institute continues with its commitment to the cause of student support and progression. SLS strongly emphasizes research and publication through various research projects and law journals which are being published in collaboration with LexisNexis where students contribute significantly. The SLS Pune moot team was one of the four teams that represented India for the Philip Jessup Moot in 2009 at Washington, USA. Students of SLS also represented India in the 9th Annual William C Vis International Commercial Arbitration in 2012 at Vienna. Its social agenda is honored by the Community Legal Services Network and Legal Development in collaboration with the City University of New York Law School, USA launched in 2008.
SLS, Pune has wide base of ‘institutional citizenship’ with a strong NGO and community networking. SLS has won the prestigious national level ‘Nobel Quiz Contest’ organized by the Embassy of Sweden. The SLS student team was adjudged as National Champions and International Runners-Up in Tata Crucible Campus Edition 2012.
SLS endeavors to secure all-round contributions to the betterment of the field of Law; to create world class professionals, to produce committed academicians and law reformers, to train justice dispensers, to invigorate community crusaders and to create a strong watershed of new and upcoming expertise in law relating to business and corporate context.
In 2012, SLS organised the First Annual Research Conference on Contemporary Legal Scholarship. As part of its academic initiatives. SLS organised many workshops, seminars and conferences including Basic Human Right Awareness Workshop for non-law students under the aegis of the National Human Rights Commission. As a socio-legal initiative, SLS conducted an Open Consultation on Prevention of heinous crimes on women with special reference to Rape and Sexual assault and submitted recommendations to the Verma Committee constituted by the Government of India for this purpose.

The Symbiosis Law School library is enriched with a vast collection of e-databases, books, journals, periodicals and magazines and is a prime source for legal research for faculty as well as students. Augmenting traditional print resources with expanding electronic sources, it also provides extensive technology based learning resources with legal databases such as Manupatra, new SCC online webedition, Lexis-Nexis, Hein-on- line, Westlaw, JSTOR, EBSCO and Index to Legal Periodicals. Students benefit from privileges of home-lending, book bank and distribution of study materials.
Symbiosis Law School campus is Wi-Fi enabled. It has two state-of-the-art Computer Centers separate for UG and PG program. The Labs are fully equipped for wireless data transmission. Further, the students are guided to buy laptops at concessional rates which encourages the use of technology.
All classrooms are equipped with LCD projectors and Wi-Fi connection. There is a well-equipped, airconditioned auditorium-cum-moot court hall, with the seating capacity of 150. The multi-media conference hall has a seating capacity of 50 to conduct interactive sessions. Students train their talents through various curricular and extra-curricular activities enabled through Committees and Cells. These include debates, sports, quizzes, mock Parliament, model United Nations, dance-music, moot courts, mock trials, client counseling, legal aid clinics and other cell related activities.
Health Services and Health Insurance
The Health Center provides all emergency health services, covers students under a unique and novel medical insurance scheme with a free and compulsory yearly health check up. There is a wellequipped and modern gymnasium available within the campus.
Multi-cuisine food court of the campus caters to a variety of menu and preferences at a concessional rate.
Very limited hostel facilities are available on campus based on merit. However, the institute provides detailed information on accommodation available in the near-by areas.
Student Care, Student Council, Cells and Committees:
As a preferred mode, student care is managed through personalized mentoring by faculty, student buddies and expert-driven academic success/remedial program. Elaborate Induction, career and academic counseling and discipline codes ensure leveling and strong foundation for professional grooming. Various student activities including cultural festivals are led by the Student Council. Students have the opportunity to participate in cocurricular activities and extra-curricular activities which include moot courts, elocution, debates, civil service study circle and quizzes besides cells such as Human Rights Cell, ECOCON, LawEcon, Tech Legal, Corporate Law and Legal Aid and Literacy Cell. One of the major highlights of the activities organized by the Students Council was ‘Symbhav,’ the annual student festival. SLS is always in the process of grooming student leadership which is nurtured by the Rotaract Club and various unique young professional training programs.

i. Post-Graduate programs:
The LLM programme with an interdisciplinary approach with five specializations in the study of law and research orientation by underlining the relevance of research methodology. The student has the option of a cafeteria approach in terms of specialization, cross specialization courses combining innovation, cutting edge legal acumen and theoretical insights.
Fifteen Part-time one year Diploma Programs and one Post-Graduate Diploma Programme are available as value- addition. Many students pursue these programs alongside their Undergraduate or Masters Program.
iii. Certificate Programs.
There are nineteen certificate programs which include the muchacclaimed Certificate in European Legal Studies and Certificate in Securities Laws, among others.
The Placement Cell organizes the placement training throughout the year and during the programme by a systematic development plan. Students are trained, groomed and chiseled to be the best employable, with the combination of managerial and leadership skills and a broad range of professional skills such as legal reasoning skills, advocacy, legal services, legislation, law reforms and advisory. Despite recession, the Cell has managed to place students substantially in placement opportunities from various sectors including PSUs, law firms, banking and finance companies, LPOs, judiciary and insurance.
Method of Instruction
The medium of instruction is English. The methods are essentially learner-centric, which include lectures, Socratic method, field visits, seminars, group discussions, simulations, case studies, moots, mock trials and ICT-enabled learning by the international guest faculty and guest sessions by the stalwarts of the field.

After initial assessment through elaborate psychometric tests, assessment and screening process; students get training, orientation and experiential learning through systematic internships in industry, High Courts, Supreme Court and Non-governmental organizations. Students can look forward to a meaningful and rewarding career with various options such as Judiciary, Corporate practice, Litigation, Law teaching, Legal Process Outsourcing, and Administrative services.
Qualification: The candidate should have who has passed 12th (10+2) examination from any recognized board/university with minimum 45% marks (40% for S.C. /S.T. students)is eligible. Students who have appeared for their H.S.C finals and awaiting results are also eligible to apply, subject to the submission of passing certificate by the announced date.
Age Limit: Candidate should be less than 20 years of age at the time of appearing for SET as on 04 May, 2013 (2 years relaxation for SC/ST candidates i.e. 22 years).
INTAKE: The total intake is 200 seats (Inclusive of 150 seats of B.B.A. LL.B. and 50 seats of B.A. LL.B.).
