The college shall accept only the Centralized Pre-admission Form of the University of Delhi. When applying to any regular course at Miranda House, in the first instance, students need not fill any form other than the Pre-admission Form, except for those seeking admission on the basis of Excellence in Sports and Extracurricular Activities. However, candidates are encouraged to procure the Prospectus to obtain an overview of the college and details of the selection criteria which would form the basis of admission.
After the cutoff lists are announced, the candidates selected for admission to the college are required to fill the Miranda House Admission Form attached to the Prospectus before they can be admitted to the college. This form will be available along with the Prospectus at the time of admission at the college counter.
Eligibility
(i) Age Requirement: As per University rules.
(ii) Candidates who would like to reappear to improve their marks in order to satisfy the minimum eligibility criteria shall not be considered for admission.
Applications for B. A. Honours English
Till last year admission to English Honours was on the basis of an Entrance test. This year it will be only on the basis of School Leaving Examination Marks.
Reserved Category
15% of the total seats are reserved for Scheduled Castes and 7.5% of the total seats for Scheduled tribes.
5% of the total seats are reserved for children/ widows/ wives of personnel of the Armed Forces and Paramilitary Forces killed or disabled in action or while on duty.
3% of the total seats are reserved for physically challenged students.
Admissions in the reserved category are through the Office of Dean of Student Welfare.
Seats not filled in the reserved category shall be treated as unreserved. Reservation for OBC Category will be in accordance with University directive, when received
Submission of Original Certificates
All candidates, at the time of admission to the college, are required to submit the following
certificates in the original:
i. Mark Sheet giving details of marks secured in the qualifying Class XII Examination
ii. Character Certificate issued by the Head of the school/ college last attended
iii. Date of Birth certificate, preferably the Class X certificate issued by the Examination
Board
iv. Certificate of having passed Hindi in those cases where the student has studied Hindi up to Class VIII
v. Two recent passport-sized photographs and one stamp-sized photograph for the
identity card, all unattested vi. One set of self-attested photocopies of all the above certificates
Admission shall be subject to the verification of the certificates.
The college retains the right to seek authentication from the concerned authorities issuing the certificates.
Candidates who are unable to produce any of the above mentioned certificates either because their university/ board has not issued the same till the last date of admission or because of any other reason shall be given provisional admission till
16 August 2011.
If the candidate is unable to submit the requisite documents by the required date, her admission will automatically stand cancelled.
SC/ ST Category
SC/ ST Category candidates are admitted through the Office of the Dean of Students Welfare, University of Delhi.
They are required to submit an attested copy of the SC/ ST certificate issued by anyone of the following competent authorities:
District Magistrate/ Additional District Magistrate/ Deputy Commissioner/ Deputy Collector/ 1st Class Stipendiary Magistrate/ City Magistrate (not below the rank of 1st Class Stipendiary Magistrate)/ Sub Divisional Magistrate/Taluka Magistrate/ Executive Magistrate/ Extra- assistant Commissioner
Sub-Divisional Officer of the area where the candidate or her family normally resides
Administrator/ Secretary to Administrator/ Development Officer (Lakshadweep and Minicoy Islands)
The certificate should be in the name of the student and not in the name of the parent.
OBC Reservation will be as per the directive of the University of Delhi.
Widows/ Wives/ Children of the Personnel of the Armed Forces and Paramilitary Forces
Widows/ Wives/ Children of the Personnel of the Armed Forces and Paramilitary Forces killed or disabled in action during the wars, 1947 onwards, or of those who have passed away while on duty, must submit a certificate to that effect from any of the following:
i. Secretary, Kendriya Sainik Board, Delhi
ii. Secretary, Rajya/ Zila Sainik Board
iii. Officer-in-Charge Record Office
iv. First Class Stipendiary Magistrate
Foreign Students
Foreign Students are admitted through the Office of the Foreign Students Advisor, in accordance with the procedures of the University of Delhi. In accordance with the directive of the Ministry of Human Resource Development, Government of India, all foreign students are required to undergo a medical examination within a month of their admission. Their admission will remain provisional till then and will be confirmed only on the production of valid medical fitness certificates.
Physically Challenged Candidates
Physically Challenged Candidates are admitted through the Office of the Dean of Students’ Welfare in accordance with the procedures of the University of Delhi. They are required to submit to the college the following documents:
Certificate of disability issued by a duly notified Medical Board of a District Government Hospital set up for examining physically challenged candidates under the provisions of the Persons with Disability (equal opportunities, protection of rights and full participation) Act 1995.
Certificate indicating the extent of (i.e. percentage) of the physical handicap, bearing the photograph of the candidate concerned and duly countersigned by one of the Doctors constituting the Board issuing the certificate.
Certificate of declaration to the effect that the information furnished in the application form and documents annexed is true and correct and that in the event of the same being found incorrect, the admission
is liable to be cancelled, in addition to any other action that may be taken in this regard against her In case of doubt about the genuineness of the certificates substantiating claims of disability and the extent of disability, the college retains the
right to refer the candidate to a Medical Board or to take other such steps as may be required to ascertain the accuracy of the facts. In case the candidate is found to be ineligible under this category, the college reserves the right to cancel the admission after issuing a show cause notice to the student giving her fifteen days to reply.
